The PSSuniversal modular remote I/O safety system can be used to build a structure of decentralized inputs and outputs with pure standard control functions or, in conjunction with SafetyBUS p, with pure safety functions, as well as intelligent dovetailing of both worlds.
In practical terms, PSSuniversal modular remote I/O safety system means linking the primary safety controller via fieldbus, such as the SafetyBUS p to the remote PSSuniversal modular remote I/O safety system, where blocks of I/O are housed. The blocks can be assigned to either safety or non-safety devices. Because the non-safety devices connect directly to the standard programmable logic controller (PLC), this makes a parallel remote I/O module unnecessary, dramatically simplifying the network.
While bringing both safety and standard control together in one technology, the PSSuniversal modular remote I/O safety system preserves the separation between the two responsibilities. Independence is achieved using the “enable principle” at a local level, drawing information from both control sections and switching the safety-related outputs in the field directly.
